2023 Cannabinoid Matchup: THC-P vs. Delta 10 THC

Anyone who has been following the hemp industry for the last few years knows that there’s been a ton of new psychoactive cannabinoids emerging onto the market at an almost dizzying pace. And, unless you’re a hardcore enthusiast, it’s easy to lose track of what each one brings to the table when it comes to its effects. So, we’re going to compare two of the most popular cannabinoids to hit the market in recent times: THC-P and delta 10 THC, both of which are forms of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) that ultimately behave very differently from one another.

What is THC-P (Tetrahydrocannabiphorol)?

THC-P, aka tetrahydrocannabiphorol, is the cannabinoid that’s gotten lots of buzz because of its profound potency. Discovered only in 2019, this super minor compound has 7 carbon atoms on its side chain, and what that means is that structurally, its ability to attach to the brain’s CB1 receptors is beyond impressive. THC-P attaches to these receptors at about 33x the rate of delta 9 THC, which explains why its psychoactive strength is so much higher.

What’s the High Like?

Because of the incredible rate at which THC-P works on the brain’s CB1 receptors, the high you can get from THC-P is estimated to be about 10 times as potent as that of delta 9 THC. In short, that’s really, really strong. Because of that, THC-P is best for someone who has some experience with other forms of THC, and even has the tolerance to handle such a super-strong cannabinoid.

The high is known for being intensely euphoric as well, and a lot of people who have anxiety say that taking it brings them a feeling of relief. The body high can be really powerful if the cannabinoid is taken in fairly high doses, possibly causing couchlock and drowsiness.

Does THC-P Have Benefits?

THC-P is a really new discovery, which means there aren’t loads of studies about what kinds of effects it can offer. But, what we do know is that this cannabinoid is likely to offer a substantial number of benefits, based on this one study that was done at the time of its discovery.

Those benefits are:

  • Anti-inflammatory effects
  • Anxiolytic effects
  • Antiemetic effects
  • Appetite-boosting effects
  • Neuroprotective effects
  • Analgesic effects
  • Sleep-enhancing effects

Does THC-P Have Side Effects?

All cannabinoids can produce some side effects, which goes for just about any substance we take, and THC-P’s side effects are thankfully pretty mild and short-lived, and no different from the side effects associated with cannabis. THC-P is nontoxic, so you don’t have to worry about major health concerns.

The effects include:

  • Dry mouth
  • Dry eyes
  • Dizziness
  • Forgetfulness
  • Drowsiness
  • Clumsiness
  • Paranoia
  • Anxiety

Remember, these side effects are largely dose-dependent, and tolerance-dependent. In other words, the more you take, the more likely they are to occur, and the lower your tolerance, the more likely they are to occur. For a lot of people, these side effects actually stop occurring once they have been taking THC-P for a while.

Who Would Prefer THC-P?

So, is THC-P the cannabinoid that’s been missing from your life? The main thing to consider, once again, is your tolerance to psychoactive cannabinoids. Because THC-P’s high can be so strong, you really should have a good tolerance overall, to enjoy the high rather than feel overwhelmed by it. And, besides that, it does offer benefits, like we said earlier.

What is Delta 10 THC (Delta-10 Tetrahydrocannabinol)?

Delta 10 THC is a minor cannabinoid found in trace levels in cannabis – both hemp and marijuana. Delta 10 was discovered just several years ago, by accident, in fact, and because of that, little is known about its chemical structure, as no formal analysis has been done in a lab, like with THC-P.

What’s the High Like?

While THC-P is incredibly intoxicating, delta 10 THC is actually mild, producing something more like a buzz than a full-blown “stoned” feeling – at least according to most users. The potency of its high is compared to delta 8’s, which is about 30% weaker than delta 9 THC. At the same time, delta 10 is said to behave a lot like a sativa, while delta 8 is said to behave a lot like an indica. In other words, people describe delta 10’s effects as uplifting, euphoric, energizing, focus-enhancing, and creativity-boosting.

Does Delta 10 Have Benefits?

Like we said, delta 10 THC is a very new discovery. And, because of that, no studies have been published about its potential benefits. Still, the cannabinoid has been out for a couple of years now, and at the same time, its chemical structure is very similar to delta 9 THC, which allows us to have a pretty good idea of the kinds of therapeutic uses it may offer.

Potential benefits are:

  • Anti-inflammatory effects
  • Anxiolytic effects
  • Analgesic effects
  • Appetite-boosting effects
  • Sleep-enhancing effects
  • Neuroprotective effects
  • Anti-nausea effects

Does Delta 10 THC Have Side Effects?

The potential side effects that you might get from delta 10 are the same as the ones we talked about earlier with THC-P. Because delta 10 is milder, however the side effects are less likely to occur unless you take a super high dose.

Again, they would be the following:

  • Dry mouth
  • Dry eyes
  • Dizziness
  • Forgetfulness
  • Drowsiness
  • Clumsiness
  • Paranoia
  • Anxiety

Who Would Prefer Delta 10 THC?

People who gravitate toward delta 10 typically do so because they really enjoy the high that it offers, and simply seek out something that’s milder than most psychoactive cannabinoids. Basically, if you like the idea of an uplifting, invigorating buzz, delta 10 makes a lot of sense for you.

Which Cannabinoid Will You Choose?

Delta 10 THC and THC-P share a lot in common, but you can see that their highs are totally different, which is something to really consider carefully. The good news is that you can compare them for yourself at The Calm Leaf. The Delta 10 products and THC-P products we carry come in a wide array of product types, strains, strengths, and more, so that you can freely explore both of them on your terms and find out which one suits your needs.
