2023 Cannabinoid Matchup: THC-P vs. THC-B

Nowadays, it feels like every week, there’s a new psychoactive cannabinoid that the cannabis market can’t stop buzzing about. With so many new discoveries in the hemp plant, it’s hard to keep up with each one. But, for those seeking out a super powerful ‘high’, there are two that you should keep an eye out for: THC-P and THC-B. Both cannabinoids provide a high that’s on a totally different (but high) potency level than delta 9 THC.

What is THC-P (Tetrahydrocannabiphorol)?

THC-P, aka tetrahydrocannabiphorol, is a super popular cannabinoid on the market, mainly because of its potency – it’s actually the most potent cannabinoid in hemp. Unearthed only in 2019, this extremely trace compound has 7 carbon atoms on its side chain, and what that means is that structurally, its ability to attach to the brain’s CB1 receptors is beyond impressive. THC-P attaches to these receptors at about 33 times the rate of delta 9 THC, which is why its potency is so much stronger.

What’s the High Like?

Because of the incredible rate at which THC-P works on the brain’s CB1 receptors, the high you can get from THC-P is estimated to be about 10 times as potent as that of delta 9 THC. In short, that’s really, really strong. Because of that, THC-P is best for someone who has some experience with other forms of THC, and also has the tolerance to handle such a super-strong cannabinoid.

The high is said to be very euphoric, too, and people who struggle with stress and anxiety say that taking it brings them a feeling of relief. The body high can be really powerful if the cannabinoid is taken in fairly high doses, possibly causing couchlock and drowsiness.

Does THC-P Have Benefits?

THC-P is a really new discovery, which means we don’t have tons of information about what kinds of effects it can offer. But, what we do know is that this cannabinoid is likely to offer a fantastic array of benefits, based on this one study that was done at the time of its discovery.

Those benefits are:

  • Anti-inflammatory effects
  • Anxiolytic effects
  • Antiemetic effects
  • Appetite-boosting effects
  • Neuroprotective effects
  • Analgesic effects
  • Sleep-enhancing effects

Does THC-P Have Side Effects?

All cannabinoids can produce some side effects, which goes for just about any substance we take, and THC-P’s side effects are thankfully pretty mild and short-lived, and no different from the side effects people are already used to with cannabis. THC-P is nontoxic, so you don’t have to worry about major health concerns. The effects include:

  • Dry mouth
  • Dry eyes
  • Dizziness
  • Forgetfulness
  • Drowsiness
  • Clumsiness
  • Paranoia
  • Anxiety

Just know that these side effects are largely dose-dependent, and tolerance-dependent. In other words, the more you take, the more likely they are to occur, and the lower your tolerance, the more likely they are to occur. For a lot of people, these side effects actually stop occurring once they have been taking THC-P for a while.

Who Would Prefer THC-P?

So, is THC-P the type of cannabinoid that makes sense for your lifestyle? What you really need to take into account with THC-P is your tolerance to psychoactive cannabinoids. Because THC-P’s high can be so strong, you really should have a good tolerance overall, to enjoy the high rather than feel overwhelmed by it. And, besides that, it does offer benefits, like we said earlier.

What is THC-B (Tetrahydrocannabutol)?

THC-B was, in fact, discovered at the same time, in the same lab, as THC-P. The cannabis researchers who discovered THC-P also isolated THC-B in the same sample of cannabis. We know very little about THC-B, but we do know that its carbon side chain features a unique structure that enables it to attach to cannabinoid receptors far more effectively than delta 9 THC.

What’s the High Like?

THC-B is a lot newer than other cannabinoids, and also considerably rarer than THC-P. What that means is that we just don’t have a wealth of info about its high like we do with other cannabinoids on the market. But, overall, we know that it’s significantly stronger than delta 9 THC, while being milder than THC-P. Like THC-P, THC-B’s high has been described as heavily euphoric, and its body high has been said to be particularly soothing to those who have tension in the body, and simply are looking to relax.

Does THC-B Have Benefits?

While the cannabis researchers that discovered both THC-P and THC-B studied THC-P quite a bit to understand its benefits, there aren’t any studies yet on THC-B that we know of when it comes to possible therapeutic uses. However, THC-B is believed to be particularly analgesic, which is great potential news for anyone struggling with physical discomfort. Otherwise, based on what we know about THC-B’s structural similarities to better understood cannabinoids, it’s likely that you can experience:

  • Anti-inflammatory effects
  • Anxiolytic effects
  • Appetite-boosting effects
  • Sleep-enhancing effects
  • Neuroprotective effects
  • Anti-nausea effects

Does THC-B Have Side Effects?

The potential side effects associated with THC-B are the same as the ones we talked about earlier with THC-P. And, with THC-B being just a bit less potent than THC-P, the side effects would probably be only a little less potent too. Again, they are:

  • Dry mouth
  • Dry eyes
  • Dizziness
  • Forgetfulness
  • Drowsiness
  • Clumsiness
  • Paranoia
  • Anxiety

Who Would Prefer THC-B?

THC-B is a great cannabinoid to try if you’ve gone through a lot of the other newer ones on the market, and even want to see how this one measures up. A very strong high is something that any very experienced cannabis user can look forward to, and at the end of the day, each cannabinoid’s high is different, so it’s fun to explore each one.

Which One Will You Choose?

Both THC-P and THC-B offer a powerful psychoactive high that can feel euphoric and soothing at the same time. But, as they are two different cannabinoids at the end of the day, we think that they’re both worth exploring. The Calm Leaf carries THC-B products and THC-P products in different delivery methods, strains, and more. This way, you can customize your experience and find your own version of cannabinoid-induced bliss.
