How to Properly Troubleshoot an E-Rig
An e-rig is the ultimate upgrade for your dabbing lifestyle, offering a more automated approach to dabbing through the use of advanced features that do a lot of the hard work for you, like heating the actual nail so that you don’t have to use a torch. But, with any piece of electronic equipment, you might need to do some troubleshooting from time to time to keep things working properly. Let’s go over the most common issues that e-rig users run into, and the simple solutions that will fix them.
Quick Disclaimer
Each e-rig is different, which is why we recommend that if you run into any issue, you consult your user manual. Almost all included user manuals that come with e-rigs offer a troubleshooting section, and a lot of times, the problem you’ve run into has a very simple fix that can be remedied quickly by following the instructions of the manufacturer. Besides that, you can always contact the manufacturer and ask them to help you figure out why a problem has occurred. E-rigs usually come with warranties, so if the issue is because of faulty equipment, it might be better to request a replacement rather than trying to fix the piece yourself.
Your E-Rig Isn’t Turning On
If your e-rig isn’t turning on at all, there are two common reasons why this can be the case. One is that the power source has faulty connections, which just requires opening up the power compartment and seeing if anything is loose. If something is loose, you might need to replace your rig.
The other problem you can run into is that the inside of your rig got wet, which can happen when we aren’t paying attention while cleaning our rig. If you suspect that’s the case, give it 24 hours to see if the interior components just need to dry out fully.
You’re Getting Too Much Reclaim
It’s normal to get a little reclaim with each dab hit – that is, a glob of oil that goes back down into the rig. But, if each session leaves you with so much reclaim that it’s clogging up your device bigtime, there may be a bigger issue. A lot of times, the cause is that the user is just loading dabs that are too big, so the spillover rate is higher. The other issue is pulling too hard and fast, which can force a lot of oil back into the rig. So, take longer and more steady hits, and you should be good to go.
The Controls Aren’t Working Properly
Again, this can be an issue caused by your interior controls getting wet. But, the reality is that errors with the function of the electronics can be caused by all kinds of things which can be your fault, the manufacturer’s fault or a sign that your rig is just getting old. So, in this case, we recommend looking at the manual or contacting the manufacturer, because there are way too many causes that each require a different procedure in order to remedy the issue.
Your Dabs are Way Too Harsh
If your dabs are too harsh, you’re probably dabbing at too high of a temperature – something particularly common among beginners who think that the hotter the dabs, the better the session. Try going with 550 degrees or below the next time, and see if you notice that each hit is a lot smoother. If it’s still really harsh, consider that maybe, it’s the concentrates themselves that are the problem, and you need to find a new manufacturer.
Your Smoke is Too Thin
If your smoke is too thin, try using smaller dabs next time. If your banger or nail is too crowded, there won’t be enough space for air to move around your concentrates, and the result will be weak vapor output.
Your Flavor is Stale or “Dirty” Tasting
If you’re not getting a rich and clean terpene flavor, it’s probably time to clean your setup by soaking the non-electronic parts in a solution of water, salt and alcohol. You should clean your rig once a week, because waiting too long between cleanings can lead to poor flavor as the inside of the rig gets gunked up with stale residue.
Enjoy an Awesome Dabbing Session with Your E-Rig by Becoming a Troubleshooting Expert
An e-rig can simplify your dabbing lifestyle, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t still run into some issues that will require your attention from time to time. As long as you have a high-quality, reliable e-rig on your hands, you’ll be able to fix almost all problems on your own rather than needing to go out and replace your piece. And, by maintaining it properly and avoiding basic rookie mistakes, you’ll avoid many issues altogether.
