How to Unclog Delta 8 Vape Carts/Disposables
Most of us have found that vaping delta 8 THC offers the most dazzling experience in terms of what this cannabinoid can provide. Vaping delta 8 allows us to feel its effects quickly, while the effects are highly potent yet short-lived so that we can enjoy a buzz that we’re in full control of throughout the day. Because of the popularity of vaping delta 8, more and more companies have hit the market to offer their own variations on vape cartridges and disposable devices that contain this unique cannabinoid.
While delta 8 THC vape cartridges and disposable devices are relatively simple pieces of hardware with minimal technology, they can, from time to time, give you some minor trouble. Easily the most common problem that users run into is clogs, which can happen no matter how experienced of a vaper you are.
The good news is that in most cases, a clogged cartridge or disposable is a quick and easy fix that requires simply knowing what’s causing the issue and taking a few minutes to make the necessary adjustments. It’s important to understand how to address clogs so that you don’t mistakenly assume that your vape must be thrown out and replaced just because of a minor and easily fixable issue.
Why Might a Delta 8 THC Vape Clog?
A clogged vape can certainly stop you from enjoying your favorite cannabinoid and here are some main culprits for this happening in the first place.
#1: Low Quality
The way it works is that the higher-quality the vaping hardware, the less likely you are to run into problems. Higher-quality hardware is made with better materials and higher-grade coils that are simply more reliable, which makes clogs less common, although at the end of the day, there is no vape that is completely immune to clogging.
If you’re using a low-quality vape, then you may end up with a very poorly constructed coil that can’t properly vaporize the e-liquid, thus causing it to clog up your device. Or, you may be using a very poor battery that isn’t providing enough power to the coil, thus causing your e-liquid to gunk up rather than turn into smooth vapor.
#2: Low-Quality Vape Oil
With so many companies nowadays making delta 8 vapes, the sad reality is that you’re more likely to run into low-quality products from time to time. Cheap vape oils may use filler ingredients that have higher levels of sugar, thus causing them to gunk up and lead to a clogged coil or mouthpiece. Or, the e-liquid may have the wrong consistency for vaping and be so thick that it’s almost inevitable that you’ll be dealing with clogs on a regular basis.
#3: Exposure to Cold
Vape oils naturally thicken and increase in viscosity when exposed to cold temperatures. Some of the molecules in them freeze, thus changing the consistency of the entire formula. What this means is that if you have a clogged cartridge or disposable, you need to ask yourself whether or not you’ve allowed your vaping setup to get cold in the last few hours. Leaving your device in a car during the winter is a sure way to end up with a clog, as it is leaving it by a drafty or cold area of the home.
#4: High Potency
The surprising reality of delta 8 vapes is that the more potent they are, the more likely they are to clog. Cannabinoids crystallize in specifically high concentrations, and while this may seem like a major issue, the reality is that it’s a good sign, showing that you have a pure and potent product on your hands. Crystallization is a fact of life that real-deal delta 8 enthusiasts learn to deal with, as the good news is that there are simple remedies for this minor annoyance.
#5: A Jammed Mouthpiece
Sometimes, you’ll end up with a clog due to debris getting into the mouthpiece. You will likely know this is the case because trying to pull through the mouthpiece is simply not possible.
How to Fix a Clogged Delta 8 Vape Cart or Disposable
Fixing a clogged disposable is usually a simple and straightforward process. Once you diagnose the cause behind the clog, you can employ one of the methods below.
Method #1: Blow or Pull Hard
If you’ve determined that the culprit is a clogged mouthpiece, then try either blowing into the mouthpiece or pulling on it with a lot of force. This can effectively dislodge what’s inside simply by the force of your breath. Also, for the future, consider storing your vapes in a way that does not cause them to interact with debris.
Method #2: Grab a Safety Pin
If the mouthpiece itself is clogged and the above method doesn’t work, then consider grabbing a safety pen or similar type of object and dislodging the debris manually. Simply stick it into the mouthpiece holes until you feel like you’ve broken up whatever is stuck in there.
Method #3: Apply Controlled Heat
Both crystallization due to high potency levels, and exposure to cold temperatures can cause a cartridge or disposable to clog, but both of them can be solved in the same way, with a bit of heat. Now, remember that too much heat can burn your vape oil, so you want to apply heat in a controlled manner. You can try leaving your vape within a few inches of a radiator, or even hold a blow-dryer about a foot away from your vape. These solutions can effectively get your vape oil back to the right consistency.
Method #4: Try a Water Bath
The last thing you can try if the above method isn’t successful is a water bath. Simply place your vape in a resealable bag and submerge it in warm but not boiling-hot water for about 30 minutes. This should bring the vape oil back to the right temperature for successful vaping.
Key Tip: Best to opt for the highest-quality delta 8 THC vaping products possible and keep them at room temperature or above as much as possible, to prevent clogs from occurring altogether.
