Tips to Avoid Burning Your Dabs

No one likes a dab hit gone wrong, especially when it comes in the form of burnt concentrates. Dabbing is a science, and it’s safe to say that beginners can take a while to get the hang of it. But, even complete newbies need to learn how to avoid burning their dabs, which is the most common mistake that a beginner can make. Burnt concentrates are going to come with a whole lot of disappointment, which is why these tips are essential for any dabber.

What Happens if Concentrates Get Burnt?

Concentrates are rich in a variety of hemp compounds that each have their own boiling point, to activate them and allow you to enjoy the fullest potential of their effects and flavor. But, heating the dabs beyond that point puts you in the red zone, where you can easily end up with a burnt mess on your hands.

Burnt dabs are disappointing in more ways than one. First off, the flavor is going to be terrible, since those terpenes are damaged. Secondly, the inhale can be very harsh and cause a lot of coughing, and even a sore throat that lingers for a while. Thirdly, burnt dabs are useless dabs, because the compounds lose their effectiveness once they’ve exceeded a certain temperature. So, you might as well throw them right in the garbage.

How to Prevent Burning Your Dabs

The good news is that it’s pretty easy to avoid burning your dabs. Just follow these basic tips to stay temperature-conscious at all times.

Tip #1: Pay Attention to Your Nail

If you’re using a traditional analog rig, then you’re going to want to pay careful attention to that nail. Many people don’t realize that a titanium nail won’t glow red until it’s reached about 900 degrees, which is about two times as hot as is needed to totally burn your dabs. Know the nail type you’re using, and how hot you should make it to ensure that your dabs are vaporized at the right temperature.

Tip #2: Manage the Settings of Your Dab Pen

If you’re using a dab pen, you’re not completely in the clear. If you have your settings too high, you can still make the dab chamber too hot, and this will inevitably leave you with burnt concentrates. We always recommend starting with the lowest temperature setting and working your way up incrementally to find your sweet spot without the risk of burning your dabs in the process.

Tip #3: Switch to an Electronic Dabbing Setup

In general, you’re less likely to burn your dabs if you’re using an electronic setup, whether that be an e-nail or a dab pen. An e-nail attaches to a standard dab rig and heats the nail to the precise temperature, eliminating the need for a torch. A dab pen is fully electronic, and even uses temperature presets to heat your dabs precisely. With less room for human error, you’re more likely to end up with a satisfying dab session.

Tip #4: Be Patient

Sometimes, the issue is not waiting long enough for the nail to cool down. And, this comes down to patience. We know you’re eager to enjoy a nice, big puff of concentrated vapor, but depending on the temperature you actually want for your dabs, you may need to wait longer than you want to.

Tip #5: Buy Top-Quality Dabs at All Times

Don’t underestimate how much the quality of the dab matters. Sometimes, you can do everything right and still end up with a burnt dab because it was produced using poor methods. If your dabs are dehydrated due to poor storage, if they were extracted using poor techniques that already burn the compounds, or if they contain additives, they can very well burn no matter what. So, always make a point to only buy lab-tested concentrates from trusted retailers to know you’re getting the good stuff.

Say Goodbye to Harsh Dab Hits Once and for All

No one wants to burn their dabs, and the good news is that even if you’re a beginner, you can never have to worry about that horrible taste and disappointing experience. Simply know how to use your dab equipment properly, and also stick to top-shelf dabs from reputable manufacturers, and you’re good to go.
