Welcoming a New Cannabinoid to the Hemp Market: THCjd

Did you know there is another psychoactive cannabinoid making its way onto the hemp market, and this time it’s Δ9-THCjd (THCjd). This extremely new discovery is one of over 113 individual cannabinoids in hemp, and one that stands out mainly because of its psychoactive effects which already, its biggest fans just can’t get enough of. Let’s explore THCjd so you can decide whether it’s one to add to your hemp arsenal.

What is THCjd?

With THCjd being such a new cannabinoid, there’s still a lot we don’t know about it. What we can say conclusively about cannabinoids comes from a combination of dedicated research and anecdotal information, and we don’t really have much of either just yet since it only just appeared on the market.

What we do know is that THCjd is tetrahydrocannabioctyl, with the “octyl” being a reference to the cannabinoid’s 8-carbon sidechain in its chemical structure, and this structural feature is unique as it contrasts the 5-carbon sidechain found in delta 9 THC. What this does is add to its psychoactive potency, by determining how strongly the cannabinoid works with CB1 receptors in the brain that produce the high we get from THC cannabinoids.

What’s the High Like with THCjd?

Like we said earlier, THCjd is incredibly new, so it’s going to be almost impossible to find research-backed information out there about what its properties and effects are like. There are, however, people who have used THCjd since it’s existed on the market for a very short period of time, and we can use their experiences to come up with an idea of what to expect with the high.

So, what do we know? Well, THCjd is known to be notably more potent than delta 9 THC. Its high seems to be somewhere between delta 9 and THC-P, with the latter being 10 times as intoxicating as delta 9, and is considered the most potent cannabinoid in all of cannabis. Besides that, THCjd is uniquely mellowing, sort of like delta 8, meaning it might be a really good nighttime cannabinoid. Also, keep in mind that it’s associated with couchlock.

What Else Can THCjd Do?

THCjd was discovered only in 2020, and clinical research done on the therapeutic properties of cannabinoids takes a long time to execute and publish. So, basically, we don’t have a clear idea of what the cannabinoid can do for things like pain, sleep, mood, appetite and so on.

What we can say is that THCjd, being a natural cannabinoid in the hemp plant, certainly works with the body’s endocannabinoid system to regulate processes related to how we feel and function. So, THCjd does have valuable properties outside of getting people high, but we just don’t have any evidence to refer to just yet. THCjd probably offers some type of relief from physical discomfort, since this is something that’s consistent with all THC cannabinoids, along with positive effects on mood.

What Kinds of THCjd Products are Available?

Right now, THCjd products are slowly making their way onto the market, in all of the familiar product forms that you’ve seen before in your other favorite cannabinoids. So, what can you find when shopping for THCjd?

  • Vape Carts: THCjd vape cartridges are pre-filled with vape oil, and come in many strains, containing a blend of THCjd distillate and terpenes. They attach to rechargeable vape pens
  • Disposable Vapes: Disposable vape pens are all-in-one, pre-filled vaping systems that never require charging, and also come in many strains
  • Tinctures: THCjd tinctures are oils that come in dropper bottles, and are administered below the tongue, to absorb sublingually with effects lasting for about 4-6 hours
  • Edibles: Gummies and other edibles give us a delicious way to get in some THCjd, and the effects of the high can last for up to 8 hours

Is THCjd Considered to Be Safe?

Of course, if you’re going to take a new cannabinoid, you want to be sure that it’s completely safe. Being a natural cannabinoid, it’s considered nontoxic to the body as are all cannabinoids. There’s nothing distinctive about THCjd that would make it dangerous compared to other cannabinoids we take like delta 8, delta 9, etc. Still, it’s not out of the ordinary for users to report mild, temporary side effects, all of which are not cause for serious concern, like the ones below:

  • Dry mouth
  • Dry eyes
  • Dizziness
  • Fatigue
  • Drowsiness
  • Paranoia/anxiety
  • Low blood pressure
