CBN tinctures are a great way to explore what CBN (cannabinol) can offer in a controlled way, with easy portioning and administration, and fast-acting yet long-lasting effects. Tinctures containing CBN are more associated with evening and nighttime use, with CBN being considered the “bedtime cannabinoid” for a reason. Like CBD, this cannabinoid is non-intoxicating and gentle on the body, while working with the endocannabinoid system in a way that many consider to be extremely valuable.
We carry top-of-the-line CBN tinctures from brands that you already know and trust, including Hempzilla. These tinctures come in different milligram strength options so you can choose your potency and are all made with cleanest ingredients and only the purest lab-tested hemp extracts for maximum quality and satisfaction.
CBN, or cannabinol, is a minor cannabinoid found in the hemp plant. It is the result of delta 9 THC oxidizing, and partially converting into a new cannabinoid. Despite the relationship to delta 9, CBN is completely unique and does not behave like delta 9 THC.Fascinatingly, CBN was first discovered in 1899, acting as the first cannabinoid to ever be isolated.
CBN has been researched over the decades for its various properties, but its most common application is in sleep formulas. Many people describe the effects of CBN as particularly soothing and mellowing, making it a great choice for bedtime. Besides that, it may offer a level of relief from physical discomfort as well.
To produce a CBN product, the trace amount of CBN naturally found in hemp must be isolated and extracted. Then, this CBN-rich extract can be blended with all kinds of ingredients to produce various product types. CBN products may or may not contain other derivatives of the hemp plant, including specific cannabinoid and terpenes.v
When the United States passed the Farm Bill in 2018, it was determined that all hemp products are legal as long as they contain no more than 0.3% delta 9 THC. This means that CBN is legal in all product types and strengths on a federal level. To date, CBN remains fully legal in all 50 states.
CBN is derived from delta 9 THC, but CBN products on the market are not intoxicating. CBN does have trace psychoactive effects which are only achievable when the cannabinoid is taken in extremely high dosage amounts – far more than what you’d find in any product at The Calm Leaf.
Just like CBD, CBN comes in all kinds of product forms. At The Calm Leaf, you’ll find CBN edibles, tinctures and vaping products that all provide the body with active servings of the cannabinoid, through different delivery methods. We encourage you to explore these different products to see which one is best for your particular needs.
While many people find CBN great at bedtime, the cannabinoid does not cause mental impairment as it’s not intoxicating, and not a hypnotic. However, some CBN products at the Calm Leaf combine CBN with psychoactive cannabinoids like delta 8 THC, which will cause intoxicating effects.
Because of the mellowing effect associated with cannabinol, it’s recommended that you take the cannabinoid at nighttime. Again, the cannabinoid will not cause impairment, but it may cause some level of drowsiness. This means that it’s best to take it when you have no real responsibilities to tend to.
Like many cannabinoids, cannabinol may suppress levels of an enzyme known as CYP3A4. This enzyme is responsible for breaking down a number of common medications, and so it may cause some level of an interaction. We recommend speaking to your doctor if you are taking medications and have an interest in CBN.
CBN is not associated with any real concerning side effects. As a nontoxic cannabinoid, it has not been shown to cause toxic effects. However, some people may be sensitive to certain temporary and mild side effects, especially when CBN is consumed in high doses, such as:
You can absolutely take CBN with other cannabinoids, as there are no negative interactions between cannabinoids within the hemp plant. In fact, at The Calm Leaf we carry a number of CBN products which combine the cannabinoid with CBD, delta 8 THC and other hemp derivatives. These cannabinoids can work synergistically with one another to boost the effectiveness of one another.
Each CBN product at The Calm Leaf comes with clear dosing instructions on the label. We recommend that you follow the label carefully to know you’re taking the suggested daily or nightly amount as determined by the manufacturer. Note that since CBN is nontoxic, higher doses may be well tolerated if desired.
There is no known interaction between CBN and melatonin. In fact, a lot of hemp products on the market combine CBN and melatonin together. Overall, this combination should be fine.
While everyone’s experience will ultimately be unique, there’s only a low chance that you’ll feel groggy the day after taking CBN. CBN is a pretty gentle cannabinoid when it comes to its effects. And, its effects seem to fully wear off over the course of the night.
If you’re looking for a product that takes effect within minutes but wears off in a couple of hours, vapes are the best option. If you want something that takes effect within about 90 minutes but has effects that last for 8 hours, we recommend an edible. For a nice middle-ground between the two, tinctures are the way to go.
