Nicknamed “the spiritual cannabinoid”, THC-O, more formally known as THC-O acetate, is a federally legal hemp-based cannabinoid known for its very potent effects. In high doses, THC-O is a psychedelic, which sets it apart from other psychoactive cannabinoids like delta 8, delta 10 and even delta 9, a cannabinoid about 1/3 as potent as THC-O. Basically, taking THC-O is unlike anything that you’ve ever experienced as a fan of the hemp plant.
While THC-O may not be ideal for beginners with a low THC tolerance, there’s a growing number of hemp enthusiasts who desire something stronger than delta 8 and delta 10, and that’s where THC-O comes in. Simply put, there is no cannabinoid that comes close to its potency, as many say that it provides a stronger spiritual connection and consciousness expansion. Here, we offer federally compliant, lab-tested THC-O vapes and concentrates from brands that are known for making the finest hemp products on the market, like Binoid, Delta Extrax and more. If you’re ready to dive headfirst into a new form of THC, check out these products for yourself.
THC-O is short for THC-O acetate. A newcomer to the hemp market, THC-O has actually been around since the 1950s when it was first utilized by the United States military. THC-O is a hemp-based cannabinoid that is a psychoactive. This means that it’s an intoxicating cannabinoid.
THC-O is a fully synthesized cannabinoid, meaning that it does not occur in nature. It is produced by taking THCA, the acidic and raw precursor to THC, and blending it with acetic anhydride after heating it to activate its properties. This creates a powerful THC-O concentrate that can then be added to other ingredients to produce various products.
Due to its potency combined with it being synthetic, many are concerned about trying THC-O. While we aren’t medical professionals who can offer personalized advice to every customer, we can say that THC-O is a very popular and widely used cannabinoid that has not yet been shown to produce any level of concerning harm to the human body.
THC-O is a cannabinoid that’s protected under federal law thanks to the passing of the Farm Bill by the US in 2018. The Farm Bill determined that all hemp derivatives can be sold legally as long as they are shown to have no more than 0.3% delta 9 THC. This means that all THC-O products are federally legal.
THC-O is a strong psychoactive that’s about 3 times as intoxicating as delta 9 THC. In short, it can get you very high. Many people describe THC-O as euphoria-inducing, and offering strong body high effects that can induce couchlock. Each person’s experience may be unique based on their tolerance, the dosage amount and the strain of the product they’ve taken.
THC-O has never been studied for its properties beyond its intoxicating qualities. Because it is a cannabinoid, it likely interacts with the endocannabinoid system’s cannabinoid receptors to trigger regulatory effects throughout different systems of the body. But, no research has explored this possibility to date.
Generally, if you’re new to THC compounds, it’s better to work your way up to THC-O, as beginners will not have a strong enough tolerance to its effects. This could lead to feelings of anxiety as the nervous system is not used to such a strong psychoactive. For beginners, delta 8 and delta 10 are better options.
THC-O is definitely a powerful cannabinoid, but it’s actually not the most psychoactive on the market. That credit goes to THC-P, a naturally occurring cannabinoid in hemp that’s even more intoxicating. However, THC-O is quite strong, and if you are looking for something stronger than delta 9, it’s an excellent choice.
At The Calm Leaf, we carry multiple product types that allow you to choose from a selection of strains. This includes THC-O concentrates, THC-O flower and THC-O vaping products. You’ll be able to find indica, sativa and hybrid strains to choose from for a more customized psychoactive experience.
THC-O flower simply refers to raw CBD flower buds which have been infused with a pure THC-O distillate. This means that the user will enjoy all of the known properties of the hemp plant with the addition of the psychoactive effects of THC-O. THC-O flower comes in various strains, and can be found in both pre-roll and loose bud forms.
While the side effect profile of THC-O is not a real concern, the cannabinoid can cause specific side effects if taken in high dosage amounts especially. Note that beginners are more likely to experience side effects due to their low tolerance. These side effects include:
Taking THC-O will almost definitely result in a failed drug test. Standard urine tests given out my employers are searching for THC-COOH, an enzyme in the urine that breaks down THC compounds. THC-O, like delta 9 THC, is metabolized by THC-COOH, and the high potency of the cannabinoid actually means you may be more likely to fail a drug test than you would be had you taken delta 9. If you are drug-tested regularly, THC-O should be avoided.
Like we said, there haven’t been any studies on THC-O’s physical effects. While lots of people find that certain cannabinoids help them with physical discomfort, we don’t know enough about THC-O to make a claim in this regard. Hopefully studies will come out in the future giving us a better idea.
THC-O can be taken at any time of day. But, be aware that the strong effects can make it difficult to get certain tasks done. We do not recommend taking THC-O during working hours. Set aside a few hours when you have nothing to do so that you can sit back and enjoy the cannabinoid’s effects.
Taking THC-O and CBD together is perfectly fine as there is no risk of a negative interaction. CBD may make the high of THC-O somewhat mellower depending on the proportion of cannabinoids you end up taking.
